Sports Yoga Hawaii’s Manifesto

Introduction

How do you train your body to perform at its best? We at Sports Yoga Hawaii believe you will play your sport with fewer injuries and less pain by doing our conditioning exercises at least once a week. Our fitness-based approach is designed by athletes for the active lifestyle.

Sports Yoga Hawaii is for those who have heard of yoga but never given it a try, or for those who have been to a class and thought, “This just isn’t for me.” The chanting, dogma, and new age music are not part of our style. We aim to innovate and “skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.” – Wayne Gretzsky

We’ve studied the human body and we play sports. It’s incredibly frustrating to put in the training time only to become sidelined due to an avoidable injury.

We’re here to help put an end to that.

Sports Yoga Hawaii Principles

  1. We believe that athletes stand to gain the most by doing Sports Yoga at least once a week.
  2. Our style is more fitness-base approached, not mind-body-soul.
  3. Sports Yoga is not spiritual practice. We do not chant and we will never ask you to sit on a mountain-top to meditate, PERIOD!
  4. Flexibility not required. In fact, that’s what we’re here to help you with.
  5. We will never ask you to eat granola. Although if you like it, by all means please don’t let us stop you from eating it.
  6. You will never hear us play that “Yogi,” pan-flute music, unless we are in corpse pose that is. Gone are the days of playing that slow, peaceful new age music. We play pop, rock, alternative, hip-hop, top 40, music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, etc. We want you to have a good time and not be so serious.
  7. We ask our clients and instructors to always “Play Like A Champion Today” - Lou Holtz.
  8. There’s an amazing athlete within you! Don’t forget that. This is our core belief.

Yoga works and that’s why past and current professional athletes such as Eddie George, Maria Sharapova, Hope Solo, LeBron James, etc. are yoga enthusiasts.
